Nurse, fighter, prisoner, Amazon, rebel, wife, virtuous mother and martyr: this was Anita Garibaldi. And with her, the others: women who, already during the Risorgimento, were able to occupy public spaces outside the exclusively private sphere. Starting from the legendary figure of Anita Garibaldi, on the bicentenary of her birth, the exhibition offers a gallery of stories and faces that tell, by antithesis and analogies, the richness of the composite female universe that animated the Risorgimento.
Paintings, prints, photographs from the collections of the National Museum of the Italian Risorgimento, the Museum of the Risorgimento in Milano, the Glauco Lombardi Museum in Parma, the Opera Barolo in Torino and the Masino Castle will be on display.
The exhibition ends with the video The true face of Anita, curated by Professor Silvia Cavicchioli, a professor at the University of Torino who tells the extraordinary story of the only living portrait of Anita Garibaldi.
